A Real Guide for Those Who Want to Set Up a Small Production Line: Where to Start, How to Grow?
Many people who want to take the first step into entrepreneurship knock on our door with the question, “How can I start production with little capital?” As a company that produces liquid filling machines, we answer similar questions every day:
Which machine should I start with?
What should the most basic line be?
How should I plan my budget?
I am preparing this article as someone who comes from the kitchen, with real production experience, by observing dozens of small businesses that have been producing for years. If you have an idea to set up a liquid filling line, this article will be your guide.
1. Know the Product First: The Heart of the Line is the Character of the Product
The architecture of every production line starts with the product. How thick is the product? Does it foam? Is it delicate?
For example:
- The filling speed should be slowed down in volatile products such as oxidants,
- A piston or transfer pump should be used for viscous products such as shampoo,
- Low viscosity liquids such as cologne should be measured precisely with a flowmeter.
So, before going into production, get the technical data of your product:
Viscosity, density, filling temperature, pH, foaming tendency…
This information will determine the type of filling system and other machines.
2. What Machines Consist of a Basic Line?
To set up a small-scale, low-budget but professional production line, you need 4 basic pieces of equipment:
- Liquid Filling Machine
- It is the most critical part. Depending on the product, volumetric (piston), peristaltic or flowmeter systems should be preferred.
- Depending on your initial cost and production capacity, a single semi-automatic or 2 or 4 nozzle conveyor system is sufficient. Servo controlled systems provide precision advantage but increase cost.
- Kapak Takma / Sıkma Ünitesi
- Manuel tork kontrollü sistemlerle başlanabilir.
- Zamanla pnömatik sıkmalı otomatik modellere geçiş yapılabilir.
- Uyumlu kapak tiplerine dikkat edilmelidir (fliptop, sprey, trigger, vs.)
- Labeling Machine
These four machines are the minimum set that makes a small business look professional.
3. Space and Facility Requirement: Where to Establish?
The following question often arises:
“How much space will I need for this line?”
Response:
- 250 m² closed area, empty packaging stocks according to your capacity, production section, filling section and a section where the produced products will be stored. For this, a storey or wide flat area is evaluated according to your production capacity.
- Washable floor, ventilation, water drain,
- Learn how many kW power is available in your 380V power line and workplace. (Power of Business Panels is Important According to Consumption of Machines.)
- Compressor connection, Pure Water Line, Industrial Mixers
So, what is needed is not a corner of a warehouse, but a clean, controlled and production-friendly area.
Additionally, there are two other things that are just as important as the production line:
- Raw material preparation section (tank, mixer, weighing area),
- Product waiting and packaging area.
These become critical as production capacity increases.
4. The Most Common Mistakes (And How to Avoid Them)
❌ Buying a ready-made machine and planning the product later
→ First clarify the technical requirements specific to your product, then choose a machine.
❌ Starting with an 8-nozzle automatic system by saying “I will grow”
→ If your production volume is low, the machine remains idle and the investment is wasted.
❌ Buying a machine without considering packaging variety
→ It is not always easy to use different bottle types on the same line. Changing bottles wastes time and can cause incompatibility.
🎯 Conclusion: Small Line, Big Plan
If you want to start production with little capital today, it is possible. But with the right decisions…
Choosing the right machine, solutions that fit real needs, starting with a system that is open to the future will make you grow in 6 months.
As Saruhan Makina, we have been setting up these types of production lines for over 10 years.
Our aim is not just to sell machines, but to enable you to start production.
Remember:
You are building a system, not a machine. Starting small is not a problem, starting short is a risk.
